Neil Gaiman has set the record straight after appearing to make a dig at his ex-wife Amanda Palmer on his GoodReads account.
The American Gods author’s account showed he was reading a book entitled Splitting: Protecting Yourself While Divorcing Someone with Borderline or Narcissistic Personality Disorder.
Screenshots of him reading the novel started to circulate online, and fans speculated the book choice was an allusion to his split from Palmer.
Over the weekend, Gaiman piped up to slam any suggestion he was reading the book on navigating a divorce from an individual with a personality disorder.
“Someone with a dark sense of humour just hacked this account,” he wrote on Goodreads, adding, “(I suppose that’s what I get for leaving it here and not doing anything for a long time.)”
On May 4, the pair announced they were going their separate ways. Palmer revealed her side of the breakup in a note to her Patreon page on Sunday.
“Since people are getting confused and asking and my phone and inbox is blowing up with ‘where’s Neil?’ a few times a minute… I can only gather that he’s finally told the internet that he’s left New Zealand, and I thought I would come here with a short note,” the musician wrote.
“Neil moved to the UK, my heart has been broken, and I am really struggling. I’m still in lockdown here in New Zealand with four-year-old [son] Ash for the foreseeable future.”
Shortly after, Gaiman addressed the split in a Twitter post on May 4.
“I see @amandapalmer has told people that we (like much of the world) are going through rocky times right now. It is true, we are. It’s really hard, and I’d like to request privacy (as I’m not going to be talking about it publicly) and kindness, for us and for Ash,” he said.
Gaiman is a celebrated American author and the co-creator behind Good Omens and American Gods. He married Palmer in 2010 and share a four-year-old son Ash.
