We’ve all been there: you decide it’d be funny to ‘knight’ one of your house party guests, and accidentally nick Ed Sheeran’s face with a ceremonial sword in the process.

OK, so it’s a little more high-brow than your average party mishap, but the alleged incident was enough to land Princess Beatrice in the headlines back in 2016 and four years later, it seems Sheeran’s manager hasn’t quite forgiven her.

The ‘Shape of You’ singer has never named Beatrice as the person responsible for the cut on his cheek, the injury having been quite a stir in the news cycle when it happened.

However, his manager Stuart Camp has seemingly confirmed the report in a new interview branding the princess a “f—ing idiot”.

“I got quite protective over that … You know, we’ve not heard hide nor hair from her since,” he says.

Having attended a soiree at Royal Lodge, the York family home in Windsor, Sheeran was rushed to hospital with a cut on his right cheek, which required stitches.

Camp, who received a call from the palace, confirmed the singer’s team had never publicly commented on the incident or how the cut happened.

He suggests this was because people had instructed him to “lie and say it wasn’t [Beatrice]”.

“I said, ‘Well, we’re not telling anyone anything’. I’m not lying, just because someone’s a f—ing idiot, because they’re thinking, ‘Yeah, I will get paralytic and take a sword off the wall’,” he added.

“You’re just asking for trouble.”

According to reports, Beatrice had been chatting with singer James Blunt at the Royal Lodge party when he joked that he rather fancied a knighthood.

Going along with it, she is said to have taken a ceremonial sword down from the wall to mimic a knighting ceremony.

The eldest daughter of Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson reportedly swung the blade and said, “Arise Sir James”, not realizing Sheeran was just inches away.

“She must have misjudged the weight … instead of lightly tapping him on the shoulder, she swung it back, not knowing Ed was standing right behind her,” a source said.

The blade caught Sheeran’s face just below his right eye, the source added.

“Everyone was totally shocked and apparently Beatrice was very upset, but Ed was the perfect gentleman and told her it was just an accident,” they said.

Curiously, Blunt claimed in a 2017 interview that he and Sheeran had invented the story about Beatrice.

“Ed was drunk, messing around, and he cut himself. We made a fancy story up; people fell for it. It was very embarrassing,” he told Shortlist.

“It’s bizarre that people fell for it. I blame him. He must be desperate — he’s trying to sell records.”

Sheeran also spoke about the night in an interview with Absolute Radio but didn’t specify how he came to have stitches in his face.

“I got hit in the face and I was like, ‘Alright, OK’, and then started carrying on and then I looked down at my shirt and it was just completely covered in blood,” he said.

“Everyone was kind of gaping open-mouthed at me. What have I got a nosebleed or something? What’s happened?

“James Blunt would like me to tell everyone that it was him and he was trying to reclaim his pop career by killing me.”

The royal family has not officially commented on the alleged incident.

Sheeran is rather chummy with the royal family, having filmed a charity video with Prince Harry just last year in which they joked about being redheads.

The chart-topper also met Prince Charles when he received his Member of the Order of the British Empire in 2017.

He later admitted to committing the “faux pas” of grabbing the future king’s hand when he wasn’t meant to.
