Gloria Allred Says They Have Evidence Over The Claims Of Alleged Sex Party Rape Suit At Chris Brown’s Residence

After famed victim’s rights attorney Gloria Allred filed a lawsuit on Wednesday (May 9) against Chris Brown on behalf of a client who claims she was raped during a sex party at Brown’s Los Angeles home in February 2017, the attorney tells Billboard she attempted to discuss the matter with the singer and his attorney beforehand to no avail.

Allred responded to a TMZ report on Wednesday in which Brown’s attorney, Mark Geragos, reportedly told the site that he and Allred “secretly mediated the case already,” that the woman’s claims were found to be false and that Allred demanded $17 million to settle the matter.

“Mark Geragos was a no show at the mediation. He did not show up. He did not call. He was not there. Chris Brown and Young Lo also did not show up or call,” Allred wrote in an email to MM on Thursday (May 10), referring to rapper Young Lo (born Lowell Grissom Jr.), who along with another defendant known as Doe X are at the heart of the suit alleging sexual battery, emotional distress, negligence and other crimes.

“I did appear at the mediation which had been agreed to by Mr. Geragos. The mediator was a retired judge, who was formerly an experienced prosecutor who had handled many rape cases. The mediator spent hours interviewing our client and never said that her claims were false. To the contrary, the retired judge said that he found our client to be highly credible. Furthermore, the mediator was never able to question Mr. Grissom or Mr. Brown to determine their credibility, because neither of them showed up or even called into the mediation. Mark Geragos, never showed up or called into the mediation either and I can prove that.”

Geragos — who was reportedly scheduled to appear on TMZ on Thursday to respond to Allred’s claims — could not be reached for comment at press time.

At a press conference on Wednesday, Allred described the incidents leading up to the alleged assault, but would not go into detail about the specific allegations, instead referring reporters to the lawsuit due to the sensitive nature of the claims. “This is one of the most horrific sexual assault cases that I have ever seen,” she said. “And our client, Jane Doe, has been severely traumatized by what she was forced to suffer.”

According to the lawsuit, Doe had attended a concert at 1 Oak in West Hollywood, where she was invited to attend an after party at a recording studio where Brown and rapper Young Lo were working. When she arrived there, her phone was allegedly taken from her because Brown did not want any phones in the studio. Even when Doe wanted to leave, she claims her phone was not returned and she was then coerced into going to Brown’s house in order to retrieve her phone.

While at Brown’s house, the plaintiff claims alcohol and illicit drugs that she believed include cocaine, molly and marijuana were provided to guests. She also says Brown handed each female guest, including herself, a pill filled with white powder and instructed them to take it to have a “good time.” Doe allegedly did not take the pill and instead sought to isolate herself in hopes she would be left alone.

Worried that she could not reach her daughter, Doe’s mother contacted police, who visited Brown’s home, where they were denied entry to his property. The plaintiff alleges that Brown, Grissom, the female guest referred to as Doe X and others planned to use drugs, alcohol and intimidation to “coerce and force unwilling female guests to perform sexual acts for Defendants and others.” They allegedly lured the female guests into a bedroom and then falsely imprisoned those unwilling to voluntarily engage in sexual activity by barricading the door.

When the plaintiff reportedly refused to engage in sexual activity with Grissom and Brown, she claims she was forced to perform oral sex on Grissom and Doe X and was later raped twice by Grissom before being allowed to leave. The plaintiff also claims she saw Brown and Grissom in possession of multiple guns in the house and was generally intimidated by the aggressive behavior in the house. Brown, Grissom, Doe X and other unnamed defendants are accused of sexual battery, gender violence, hate violence, assault, interference with exercise of civil rights, intentional infliction of emotional distress and more.

A spokesperson for Brown — who was not accused of touching the plaintiff in the incident — has not returned requests for comment. Brown pleaded guilty to felony assault in connection to his February 2009 attack on then-girlfriend Rihanna and was sentenced to community labor, five years of probation and domestic violence counseling in that incident. Early last year, his former girlfriend, Karrueche Tran, was granted a five-year restraining order against him after she claimed he repeatedly threatened her.

In her email to MM, Allred added: “Since neither Mr. Geragos or his clients attended, I never made a demand for any amount of compensation whatsoever, let alone a demand for 17 million dollars. I also never made a demand for any amount of money for my client at any other time. The mediation was a complete waste of my time and that of my client. I was left wondering why Mr. Geragos scheduled it and whether there was an ulterior motive to stall for time as I never would have agreed to mediate the case had I known that Mr. Geragos and his clients would not be attending. Since neither Mark nor his clients appeared at the mediation they will now have to face me in court.”

Allred ended the note by writing, “Be prepared Mark. We have our evidence and all that you appear to have is a statement that you and I mediated which is completely false because I can prove that you were never even there at the mediation, that I never made a demand and that your clients were also not there.”
