Celebrities have conjured up some pretty interesting baby names over the years, so it was only a little bit surprising when Tesla founder Elon Musk and singer Grimes announced the most unconventional name possible for their newborn son.
Musk, 48, announced the birth of his baby boy on Twitter May 5, tweeting: “Mom & baby all good”.
He shared adorable photos of the newborn with his followers as well as answering a number of fans questions.
When a fan asked about the baby’s name, Elon Musk did not hesitate with a reply.
“We need the name we literally need it,” a user tweeted.
To which Musk replied: “X Æ A-12 Musk.”
Musk is known for posting jokes and memes on Twitter, so it’s likely this could all be a prank.
Meanwhile, the world has been been speculating as to whether the characters are a riddle with a hidden meaning, while others have reacted by posting memes on how to pronounce the name.
One Twitter user dug deeper, revealing the name could possibly be interpreted as X Ash Archangel — The tweet showed a screenshot from Wikipedia explaining the character Æ is a ligature for ash, A-12 is thought to be in reference to the CIA aircraft Lockheed A-12, which had the codename Archangel.
Musk liked the tweet, leading fans to believe the user was correct.
Another user suggested that the name is Xavier, tweeting: “I feel like a genius for breaking the code to Elon Musk and Grimes baby boys name. It’s Xavier. X-a, then 1 in mandarin is ‘yee’ and 2 is ‘er.’ Thank you for listening to me, a stable genius.”
But Musk already has a son with the name Xavier, so the chances the newborn was given that name are unlikely.
This is Musk’s sixth child. He has five sons from his previous marriage to author Justine Wilson — twins Xavier and Griffin, and triplets Damian, Saxon and Kai. The couple married in 2000 and separated in 2008.
X Æ A-12 is Grimes’ first child. The 32-year-old ‘Oblivion’ singer is yet to comment on her son’s name on social media.
Musk and Grimes began dating in 2018. She announced her pregnancy on social media in January.
“I’m sorry I haven’t been promoting my album properly or on social media more,” she revealed to her fans.
“This whole thing has been a bit of an ordeal,” the singer added, revealing she had some “complications early on”.
How do we think Starbucks will write X Æ A-12 on the cup?
